When I first saw Georgia Fisher’s collection at the Jimmy Choo Academy Graduate Show, what stood out was its sense of confidence. Every look appeared carefully considered, balancing style with wearability while presenting a clear creative identity. It was a collection that invited a closer look.

Titled Bajo el Sol (“Under the Sun”), the collection draws inspiration from Almería and the broader culture of Andalusia in southern Spain. Fisher combines the region’s warmth and atmosphere with influences from two of fashion’s most celebrated couturiers, Madeleine Vionnet and Madame Grès. Their mastery of draping and silhouette is evident in garments that feel fluid, contemporary and refined.

Speaking about Bajo el Sol, Fisher explained that the collection was always intended to be about more than beautiful clothing. At its heart was a desire to empower women.
“For women, just to be super empowering, super confident, feel like the centre of attention in the most unique, perfect way”.

That philosophy continues throughout the collection. Fisher is not designing for only one age group or lifestyle; instead, she wants her work to feel open and accessible.
I’m super open. Any age, any location, from day to night”.

For Fisher, confidence and representation go hand in hand. She believes fashion should help women feel comfortable in themselves and confident wherever they are.
“Women should definitely feel more confident everywhere they go,” she said.

Receiving the Brand Ready Collection Award marks an important milestone, but Fisher is already thinking ahead. Following graduation, she hopes to collaborate with brand ambassadors and find buyers and manufacturers to help bring her collections to a wider audience.
As our conversation came to an end, I asked Fisher if she had one piece of advice she lives by.
She thought for a moment, smiled and replied simply:
“Be yourself”.

Those two words embody both the designer and the spirit of Bajo el Sol. In an industry that often celebrates trends, Georgia Fisher’s work is grounded in confidence, individuality, and a clear sense of direction. They are also why she is the first designer to be featured in The Threaded Frame’s “Designers to Watch” series.
